Tackling a statistical problem can be quite challenging, especially if some time has passed since your last encounter with statistics and thus your knowledge has become somewhat rusty. At second glance, however, it turns out that many important statistical approaches are based on similar and relatively few elementary concepts. Thus, a solid understanding of some essential principles makes it much easier to choose, implement and learn almost any statistical approach.
This course is for all those who want or need to brush up on their statistics skills and/or strive for a deeper understanding of statistical concepts in general. Amongst others we will cover the following topics:
- Essentials (e.g. descriptive statistics, distributions, explaining variance, standard errors, etc.)
- Basic principles and the rationale of hypothesis testing
- Essential methods like t-Tests, ANOVA and Chi-squared tests
- Regression models
Complementary exercises will deepen the understanding of the contents and we will explore some free and useful software tools.
